discovery

Discover the wonders of Myall Park Botanic Garden by:

  • visiting our Garden and enjoying the walks and trails provided. Some walks are very short and along the way you can see many different planted species, while the trails are longer and take you through our natural bushland. The brochures accompanying the walks and trails describe botanical details as well as field and artistic elements.

  • visiting our Garden and enjoying our fact sheets. Discover: how plants are named; differences between grevilleas and hakeas, why plants become rare and at times extinct, and many more. There are lists of fauna and flora as well.

Myall Park Botanic Garden also offers activities for children of all abilities. Children can discover and enjoy nature through planned discovery 'lesson's, activity sheets, games, drawing and playing musical instruments.

We also have an off-situ educational programme 'Save a Species'. The importance of biodiversity and the plants local to the school's region is valued and understood through action planning, propagation, and research.

These programmes have been guided by the following:

Educational opportunities should be available for all ages, including general and specialised audiences, local and international. Discovery should be the focus so learning can be enjoyable and memorable.

The role of education at Myall Park Botanic Garden is to increase public knowledge and understanding of the value and vital importance of plants from arid and semi-arid regions, their relationship with animals and the preservation of ecosystems. Networking effectively with universities, colleges, schools and other botanical/horticultural institutions enriches our educational offerings.
