RESEARCH

One of the main roles of a botanic garden is to encourage and conduct research.

Currently Myall Park Botanic Garden:

  • is investigating the possibility of a conservation project focussing upon increasing biodiversity so that numerous species of invertebrates can find a refuge in our Garden. Partly funded by the International Biodiversity Project, Western Australian Museum.

  • Australian stingless bees project with New South Wales University.            See Article and photographs

  • has grevillea and eucalypt projects in place.

  • works with the Queensland University to provide testing and recording sites for new hybrids that may prove to be suitable for 'low' water gardening.

  • is progressing the concept conceived in 1990 of establishing rare and endangered species in the home garden.

  • is investigating climate change possibility affecting our collection and our future specimen selection.

For details regarding our research activities email Dr Nita C. Lester.

Nita is also available to answer any queries you may have re species identification.
