Myall Park Gallery

dedicated to

Dorothy Gordon

The Gallery features a permanent exhibition of original botanical watercolours by Dorothy Gordon as well as visiting art and photography exhibitions.

The Gallery is also available for hire.

Art and science go hand in hand here. Some of Dorothy Gordon's friends have been involved as volunteers at the Garden since Dave first asked for their help.

Art in the Garden includes sculptures and musical instruments.

The leadlight window

- the three panels are repeated in this graphic

Left: 3 of the 48 delightful botanical watercolours by Dorothy Gordon hang in our gallery. Eight of these are available as prints, and another 8 as blank greeting cards (click here to view)

Some of the plants Dorothy painted grow in the beds outside the gallery. Also here are the three Gordon grevilleas, plus other interesting grevillea species, and a selection of water plants in experimental water gardens.

Compare this photograph of G. banksii with the painting above.

The leadlight panel at the entrance to the gallery was created by local people with the help of expert tuition from Dermot Clifford. The three panels (repeated here for effect) depict the 3 Gordon grevilleas (from the top) Merinda, Sandra and Robyn. The lobby doubles as visitor information centre and gift shop (see Gift Shop).

The artists have used wood and stone-carving, ochre application and the natural environment.

This project and the Cyberflora mural were made possible with generous assistance from the Regional Arts Fund.

Our Wedge-tailed Eagle was made from corrugated iron by Brisbane sculptor Ben Somerville in 2008 and has a commanding view of the gallery area.

Thanks to the Regional Arts Development Fund who assisted us with this project.

Marianne Irvine is another photographer inspired by our Garden. She describes her award winning 'abstract Impressiongraphs' as 'blurry out-of-focus Myall Park images ... very personal, very instinctive, very much from the heart'.

Japanese artist Dobashi Sakiko spent several weeks at the Garden painting a series of Australian acacia paintings exhibited in Japan.

The 'Cyberflora' mural was designed via internet by a group of artists connected in various ways to the Garden, then painted on the front of the gallery by local artists. Postcards and prints of the striking mural are available from
